Puffin Class Ethos
Puffins Class Ethos
The Puffins class are a lovely group of 6 boys between Year 2 and Year 6. This is a low distraction classroom setting with a minimalist approach to display and observable resources.
The classroom is arranged using the basic principles of the Teacch approach. The approach takes in to account the physical and visual structure of the child’s environment.
All the children need visual supports to help make communication consistent, foster independence, and to provide them with the structure that they need to avoid frustration and anxiety. They use a combination of a visual timetable and objects of reference. We use a mixture of PEC’s books, choose boards, communication boards and words and sentences to request objects and activities.
A green and orange ‘now and next’ card may be used which helps the child understand what they need to do now and what will happen next.
To help with understanding, adults use minimal language when communicating with children and keep distractions to a minimum.
