Ashgate was the first of Manchester’s “Specialist Support” schools and it has been established to meet the needs of the broad spectrum of children with learning difficulties in the primary age range in the South Manchester and Wythenshawe districts. We cater for children with “Profound Multiple Learning Difficulities” (PMLD) “Severe Learning Difficulties” (SLD) “Autistic Spectrum Disorders” (ASD) and “Social Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties” (SEBD). The school has a notional 15 assessment places for pupils undergoing assessment for SEN, who do not yet have a formal Statement of Special Educational Needs.
In the last five years, since the school opened, we have developed a significant outreach role with schools in our two districts, with regard to pupils in mainstream schools who need additional support with learning difficulties, ASD, behaviour or a combination of those.
The school is going to move from its current site to be co-located with the neighbouring Crossacres Primary School in the Autumn Term 2012. This will permit us to admit significantly more pupils and allow access to a much broader range of facilities.
