School Nurse

Ashgate's Special Needs School Nurse is Sinead Doherty.

Welcome to the Children’s Special Needs Nursing Team.

 

Who are we?

The Special Needs team consists of Community nurses, Special Needs School Nurses and School Nurse Assistants. We provide support and planned care within the Community, home and Special needs school environment for children and young people age 0-19 with physical and learning disabilities and complex health needs.

We are part of an integrated team with the Children’s Palliative Care Team (STAR team) and the Complex Care (Long- Term Ventilation and Acquired Brain Injury Children and Young Persons) team.

 

What do we do?

The teams provide care, support and advice for the child/ young person and their family within the home, school and community environment, all year round. We work as part of a multidisciplinary team with other professionals from Health, Education and Social services.

 

Our Aims

To co-ordinate and deliver planned care using a family centred, multidisciplinary approach within the home, school and community.

To enhance the quality of life for children/ young people and their families; and give support needed to care for a child/ young person with special needs.

The service is an all year round service providing ongoing support through the school breaks. If you need to contact Sinead or a member of the team during school breaks their office number is 0161 248 1247 and they are based at Longsight Health Centre.
